A's Duchscherer, Gallagher land on DLSeattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics starting rotation took a major hit Thursday when the club placed pitchers Justin Duchscherer and Sean Gallagher on the 15-day disabled list. Duchscherer left Tuesday's start against Minnesota in the third inning with a sore right hip. His placement on the DL is retroactive to August 19 with the injury officially labeled a strain. The All-Star was on the disabled list in April with a strained right biceps and has struggled to a 5.34 earned run average over his last five starts. He is 10-8 on the season.
Gallagher followed Duchscherer on Wednesday by allowing 10 earned runs on 11
hits in just five innings of a 13-2 loss to the Twins. He hits the DL with
shoulder fatigue retroactive to August 20. The 22-year-old is 1-2 with a 6.55
ERA over seven starts since being acquired from the Cubs as part of the Rich
Harden deal. Pitchers Dana Eveland and Dan Meyer have been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to fill out the roster with Eveland scheduled to start Saturday's tilt with Seattle. Sunday's starter is yet to be determined.
