A's place Thomas on DL, activate ChavezOakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics placed designated hitter Frank Thomas on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday with an injured right quadriceps. Thomas did not play in Wednesday's contest against Toronto after leaving Tuesday's bout in the third inning following a double. An MRI on Wednesday revealed inflammation in the veteran's right quad.
The blow doesn't hit as hard, as Oakland activated third baseman Eric Chavez
from the 60-day DL. Chavez has suffered from chronic back problems since being
placed on the injured list last August. The perennial gold glover will make
his debut Thursday at DH. To make room for Chavez on the 40-man roster, Oakland designated outfielder Jeff Fiorentino for assignment.
