Anderson, Quentin homer to lead White Sox past Mariners


Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Brian Anderson hit a three-run home run as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners, 8-4, in the second of a three-game set at Safeco Field.

Carlos Quentin went 3-for-5 with three RBI while Nick Swisher added two hits and an RBI for the White Sox, who have won three straight and four of five. Javier Vazquez (4-3) got the win as he gave up four runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI and Jose Lopez drove in the other run for the Mariners, who have dropped five straight and 10 of 11 overall. Jarrod Washburn (2-5) got the loss as he gave up seven runs on eight hits in five innings of action.

The White Sox grabbed the lead with a big second inning. With two men on base and one out, Anderson blasted a shot over the center field wall. Juan Uribe then worked a walk and Orlando Cabrera then hit a double to chase home Uribe. Quentin followed with a homer to center for a 6-0 lead.

The Mariners got a run in the fourth as Beltre hit a one-out, solo home run to make it a 6-1 game.

Chicago, though, got the run back in the fifth as Jermaine Dye drew a walk and two batters later Swisher belted a triple to bring home Dye for a 7-1 lead.

Seattle got back into the contest with three runs in the sixth. Miguel Cairo led off with a single and Ichiro Suzuki followed with a double. Beltre later brought home both runners with a single to center. Raul Ibanez then punched a single to more Beltre to third and Lopez's sacrifice fly scored Beltre to make it a 7-4 game.

The White Sox gave themselves a bit more breathing room in the ninth as Toby Hall led off with a double, moved to third on a sac bunt from Cabrera and crossed the plate on a single from Quentin for an 8-4 lead.

Game Notes

Ichiro stole his 15th base of the season in the game and has been caught just once this season. Also, he has a 10-game hitting streak...Out of Anderson's 11 career home runs, five of them are against Seattle with four coming at Safeco Field...Before the game, it was announced that Seattle first baseman Richie Sexson had his suspension reduced from six games to five after an appeal. The suspension was in response to his violent and aggressive actions in the fourth inning of Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field...Attendance was 33,078.
