Big Unit shines as D'backs thwart Padres

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer and Randy Johnson threw six solid innings, as the Arizona Diamondbacks topped the San Diego Padres, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game set.

Johnson (1-1) surrendered just one run on three hits, while walking two and fanning seven to earn his first win since June 10, 2007.

Orlando Hudson went 2-for-5 with a run batted in and Chris Young doubled for Arizona, which has won two in a row, four of five, and eight of 10. Outfielder Eric Byrnes missed his second straight game with a leg injury.

Randy Wolf (2-1) lost for the first time this season after giving up five runs on seven hits in just four innings of work -- though he walked none and struck out three.

Callix Crabbe drove in the lone run for the Padres, who have lost five straight.

Arizona took a commanding lead in the third inning. Miguel Montero hit a lead- off single, moved to second on a bunt from Johnson and crossed home on Young's double.

Augie Ojeda then grounded out, but Hudson singled to plate Young for the Diamondbacks' second run. After a Conor Jackson single put runners on the corners, Reynolds hammered his seventh homer of the year to center and gave Arizona a 5-0 lead.

San Diego got one run back in the fourth inning, as Kevin Kouzmanoff's single was followed by a Khalil Greene double, advancing both runners into scoring position.

Johnson hit Justin Huber to load the bases, Crabbe singled to shallow left, and only Kouzmanoff scored. Johnson, though, struck out Tony Clark to end the threat.

After Johnson's day ended, Doug Slaten, Juan Cruz and Brandon Lyon each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to end the game.
