Blue Jays place Wells and Accardo on DLCleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with a broken left wrist, the team announced on Friday. The two-time All-Star was injured while making a diving catch in the sixth inning of Toronto's 6-1 loss to Cleveland on Friday. In addition to the wrist, he also aggravated his right hamstring. The Blue Jays placed Wells on the 15-day disabled list along with reliever Jeremy Accardo, who is experiencing tightness in his right forearm. In 36 games this season, Wells is batting .281 with five home runs and 24 RBI while Accardo has appeared in 16 games and is 0-3 with four saves and a 6.57 ERA. Toronto recalled infielder Joe Inglett and purchased the contract of veteran reliever Armando Benitez from Triple-A Syracuse to take the roster spots. Right-hander Tracy Thorpe was designated for assignment to clear room for Benitez on the 40-man roster.
