BoSox activate LowellBoston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox activated third baseman Mike Lowell from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. Lowell suffered a sprained left thumb on April 9 versus the Detroit Tigers. Though X-rays taken proved negative, Lowell has missed 18 games.
He went 3-for-13 with three RBI in a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A
Pawtucket while recovering. To make room on the roster, the Sox designated pitcher Bryan Corey for assignment. Corey came up to Boston on April 25 and hurled 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his only appearance.
