Brewers sign Gwynn to one-year dealMaryvale, AZ (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers announced Tuesday that they have signed outfielder Tony Gwynn to a one-year contract. The son of the longtime Padres player and Hall-of-Famer of the same name, Gwynn batted .260 last season with 10 runs batted in, in 69 games with the Brewers. In 101 career games over the last two seasons -- all with the Brewers -- Gwynn has hit .260 with zero home runs and 14 RBI.
In an ironic twist, Gwynn contributed greatly to the Padres, the club his
father spent 20 seasons playing for, not making the playoffs last season. With
San Diego one out away from clinching a playoff spot on September 29, Gwynn
laced an RBI triple off of closer Trevor Hoffman to tie a game that the
Brewers pulled out in 11 innings. San Diego went on to lose the next day to the Brewers, and dropped a tie- breaker game to Colorado for the National League wild card.
