D'Backs place Slaten on DL, recall BucknerPhoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed lefty Doug Slaten on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, a day after he strained his right knee in a game against the Dodgers. Slaten suffered the injury in the 11th inning of Friday's 8-7 loss. The reliever gave up a leadoff homer to James Loney, left after pitching to the next two batters, and took the loss. The 28-year-old had an MRI exam and will know the results in several days.
Slaten is 0-3 with a 4.55 ERA in 27 2/3 innings this season. To accommodate the move, Arizona recalled pitcher Billy Buckner from Triple-A Tucson. This will be Buckner's second stint with the club, as he appeared in a pair of games already, going 1-0 while allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings. The D'Backs currently have no healthy left-handers on their 40-man roster and have six players on the disabled list.
