Davis has successful surgeryPhoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Doug Davis underwent what the club described as successful surgery for thyroid cancer on Thursday. "The surgery that was completed this evening by Dr. Bob Evani was very successful," team physician Dr. Michael Lee said in a statement. "Doug is awake and doing well. The only complaints he had was a mild sore throat, which is expected. He will likely be released tomorrow and will begin follow- up treatments at that point."
The 32-year-old earned a heartfelt 10-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers
on Tuesday after surrendering two runs on six hits and two walks through six
innings. He was then placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. Earlier reports indicated Davis could return in as little as 4-6 weeks following the procedure.
