Drew named AL Player of the MonthNew York, NY (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew was named American League Player of the Month for June, ending the two-month reign of Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. Drew batted .337 with 12 home runs and 29 runs batted in on the month, tied for the MLB RBI lead for June with Jermaine Dye of the Chicago White Sox. In doing so the 32-year-old outfielder earned the monthly honors, ending the streak of consecutive monthly honors at two for Hamilton, who led the majors in RBI with 80 entering play Wednesday. In his second season with the Red Sox, Drew tallied 21 extra-base hits in June, including seven doubles and two triples. He had a .462 on-base percentage and opened the month with an 11-game hitting streak from June 1-12. Others receiving votes were Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, and Kansas City Royals outfielders David DeJesus and Jose Guillen.
