Giants recall Velez, option Horwitz


Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants recalled infielder/outfielder Eugenio Velez from Triple-A Fresno Tuesday and optioned outfielder Brian Horwitz to Fresno.

The 26-year-old Velez started the season with the Giants, getting the lion's share of starts at second base. The speedy, switch-hitting utility man also spent time in the outfield before scuffling to a .207 average with eight steals in 41 games.

Horwitz, 25, batted .222 with two home runs and four runs batted in through 21 games this season.
