Giants send P Correia to DLSan Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - San Francisco placed pitcher Kevin Correia on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left intercostal strain. Correia sustained the injury in the first inning of Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
The 27-year-old right-hander threw a 1-1 pitch to Ken Griffey Jr. with one out
in the first. After the pitch, athletic trainer Dave Groeschner, pitching
coach Dave Righetti and manager Bruce Bochy came to the mound and checked on
the pitcher, who walked off the mound to the dugout moments later. A fourth-round pick in the 2002 draft, Correia has a 12-17 record with a 4.07 earned run average in 150 games -- 32 starts -- with the Giants. To fill the vacant roster spot, the club recalled pitcher Pat Misch from Fresno of the Pacific Coast League.
