Holliday's eighth inning blast leads Rockies over BravesDenver, CO (Sports Network) - Matt Holliday crushed a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift Colorado to a 2-1 win over Atlanta in the first of four games at Coors Field. Matt Herges (1-0) and Manny Corpas pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively to close out Aaron Cook's strong start. Cook allowed just one run on two hits in seven innings, while striking out one and walking one.
Troy Tulowitzki doubled for Colorado, which ended a five-game losing streak. Blaine Boyer (0-1) gave up Holliday's homer to take the loss, after Tom Glavine pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless, three-hit ball. Glavine struck out and walked three each. Kelly Johnson, Yunel Escobar, and Chipper Jones had the only three hits for Atlanta. Boyer came in to pitch for Peter Moylan, who had worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning. Tulowitzki doubled to lead off the inning, and after Todd Helton struck out, Holliday homered to straightaway center field to put Colorado on top. Corpas shut down the Braves in the ninth to secure the win. Escobar got the Braves started in the first inning with a one-out single, and Jones followed with a double to score Escobar, giving Atlanta the one-run lead, and it was a pitchers' duel from that point on. Game Notes The series resumes Tuesday, when Jair Jurrjens (1-0) goes for the Braves and Ubaldo Jimenez (0-1) takes the hill for the Rockies...Atlanta won four of six versus Colorado last season, but has lost five of its last seven in Denver.
