MRI to push back A-Rod's rehab assignment

New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will have an MRI on his strained right quadriceps, pushing back his scheduled rehab assignment.

Rodriguez will have the examination in Tampa on Monday, which was when the reigning American League MVP was supposed to start the first of two Minor League rehabilitation games.

Barring any negative results from the examination and completing his two minor league games injury-free, an activation is expected on May 16 against the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium.

The third baseman ran an estimated 75 percent in the outfield on Wednesday and resumed light baseball activities. Rodriguez, along with catcher Jorge Posada and pitcher Phil Hughes, who are also on the disabled list, left the team on Thursday for Tampa.

Rodriguez was first injured on April 20 versus Baltimore before aggravating the quad on April 28. So far this season, he is hitting .286 with four homers and 11 RBI.
