Mariners ink CairoSeattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners Tuesday signed free agent infielder Miguel Cairo to a one-year contract, announced executive vice president and general manager Bill Bavasi. "Miguel strengthens our bench by giving us another player, along with Willie Bloomquist, who can cover all four infield spots and, in a pinch, the corners of the outfield," said Bavasi.
Last season, Cairo split time with the New York Yankees and St. Louis
Cardinals and finished with a combined .253 average. For his career, the versatile player has batted .267 with 27 home runs and 295 RBI.
