Meche, Royals edge Tribe


Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Gil Meche pitched seven effective innings to give the Kansas City Royals a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the second of three games.

Meche (11-10) finished the game allowing just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect ninth for his 35th save of the year.

David DeJesus finished the game batting 3-for-4 with two runs batted in while Mark Teahen had two hits for the Royals, winners of four out of five.

Zach Jackson (0-2) was solid for seven innings but received the loss. He allowed three runs on nine hits without walking a batter while striking out two.

Shin-Soo Choo recorded two of the Indians' three hits and scored the lone run, and Asdrubal Cabrera got the other hit as Cleveland snapped its 10-game road winning streak.

The Royals got on the board in the second. Ryan Shealy singled and Miguel Olivo grounded into a fielder's choice. Olivo took second on a Teahen single, third on a fly ball and scored on a single by Esteban German. DeJesus followed with a single to plate Teahen and German for a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Meche cruised, facing just 13 batters in the first four innings. He didn't allow more than one baserunner in any of his seven innings.

The Indians trimmed the deficit in the fifth. Choo led off with a triple and scored on Ryan Garko's sacrifice fly.

Game Notes

Cleveland leads the season series 8-5...Teahen's double in the seventh was his 24th of the season...Choo's triple was his third of the year.
