Mets' Delgado to sit a few days with hip injury

Port St. Lucie, FL (Sports Network) - The New York Mets' list of injuries continued to grow Saturday, as first baseman Carlos Delgado will be out a few days as he recovers from a hip injury.

Delgado underwent an MRI on the hip in Manhattan on Saturday that revealed an impingement -- a restriction of normal motion in the hip. Delgado will sit out a few days with the injury.

The news came on the same day that his replacement at first, Marlon Anderson, violently collided with new Mets rightfielder Ryan Church in an exhibition game. Anderson suffered a bruised sternum, and Church sustained a concussion.

Delgado is coming off a disappointing 2007 campaign. The 35-year-old batted .258 with 24 home runs and 87 runs batted in, and had his left hand broken on the last day of the season by a Dontrelle Willis fastball, in the first inning of the game that capped New York's historic September collapse. The Mets led the NL East by seven games with 17 to play, but finished 5-12 as the Phillies rallied to win the division.

The 14-year veteran is a career .280 hitter, with 431 home runs and 1,374 RBI in 1,850 games with the Mets and Blue Jays.
