Mets call up Lawrence to face BrewersMilwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The New York Mets selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Brian Lawrence from their Triple-A affiliate on Thursday. Lawrence, who was 8-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 12 starts with New Orleans after being released by the Rockies and picked up by the Mets in late April, will make his season debut against the Brewers.
The 31-year-old has not pitched in the majors since 2005 with San Diego, going
7-15 with a 4.83 ERA in 33 starts. He is 49-61 lifetime in 162 appearances
with the Padres from 2001-05. To make room on the roster, the Mets have designated catcher Mike DiFelice for assignment. The Philadelphia native has not seen action with New York this season, and had just two hits in 25 at-bats in 15 games with the Mets in 2006.
