Mets place Pagan on DL, shuffle up rosterFlushing, NY (Sports Network) - The ailing New York Mets shook up their roster on Tuesday, making six moves, including placing outfielder Angel Pagan on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury. The Mets also designated struggling pitchers Jorge Sosa and Nelson Figueroa for assignment, activated pitcher Matt Wise from the 15-day disabled list and recalled pitcher Claudio Vargas and infielder Fernando Tatis from Triple-A New Orleans.
Figueroa was 2-3 with a 5.12 earned run average in nine games -- six starts --
for the Mets this season, his first in the majors since 2004. Sosa owned a 4-1
record in 20 relief appearances, but had a 7.06 ERA and allowed 30 hits in 21
2/3 innings. Wise has appeared in two games for the Mets this season, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA, while Vargas -- who was signed to a minor league contract this offseason -- was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two starts with New Orleans. Tatis, who has not played in the majors since 2006 was hitting .242 with 12 home runs and 31 runs batted in through 37 games at Triple-A. Tatis owns a piece of major league history, as on April 23, 1999, he became the first and only player in major league history to hit two grand slams in an inning.
