Millwood, Rangers cool off O'sArlington, TX (Sports Network) - Kevin Millwood threw seven strong innings, and Josh Hamilton drove in two runs to help Texas top Baltimore, 3-1, and snap the Orioles' six-game win streak. Millwood (1-2) allowed one run on three hits and five walks, while striking out two for the Rangers, who earned their first home win of the season. Texas went 3-3 on a season-opening road trip before losing to Baltimore on Tuesday.
Michael Young went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice for the Rangers. Steve Trachsel (1-1) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on five hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Orioles, who were averaging almost six runs per game entering Thursday's contest. Adam Jones collected two of Baltimore's three hits, which included a double, while Nick Markakis walked three times. Texas generated the winning runs in the seventh inning. Ian Kinsler singled with one out, then stole second base easily when Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez couldn't hold onto the pitch. Young then singled to bring Kinsler home, and stole second before reaching third on a throwing error by Hernandez. A sacrifice fly from Hamilton plated Young for a 3-1 Rangers edge. Joaquin Benoit and C.J. Wilson worked a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to close out the win. Wilson earned his second save of the year. The Rangers cracked the scoreboard in the first inning, after Young reached base when his fly ball kicked off the heel of Markakis' glove. Hamilton doubled to plate Young and give Texas a 1-0 lead. Baltimore scored the equalizer on Hernandez's RBI single in the second inning. It was a pitchers' duel from that point on, though Millwood had to work out of a bases-loaded situation in the third. Game Notes Baltimore has not won seven in a row since an eight-game tear from April 22- May 1, 2005...Each team committed two errors...Millwood has allowed just three earned runs over 21 innings to start the season.
