O's spoil Danks' no-hit bid, then take first of two with ChiSox

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - John Danks' perfect game was broken up by Adam Jones' sixth-inning single before Guillermo Quiroz broke open the game with a two-run home run, as Baltimore began a long day of baseball with a 5-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The battle of two solid starters held serve in the early going, with a scoreless game until Quiroz's homer in the sixth. It was more than enough for Brian Burres (3-1), who pitched eight scoreless frames with three hits surrendered and four strikeouts. The Orioles have won three in a row and six of eight.

Danks (2-2) was the hard-luck loser, giving up two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 frames with four strikeouts and zero walks. The White Sox have lost three of four overall.

Danks briefly flirted with pitcher's perfection, allowing nary a baserunner through five frames. Jones broke up the perfect game with a leadoff single, and Quiroz followed with a long blast to left for a 2-0 Baltimore lead.

The Orioles added three runs in the ninth, as Eider Torres doubled and scored when Jones reached on Paul Konerko's fielding error. Later in the frame, Brian Roberts' two-run double capped Baltimore's scoring.

Chicago loaded the bases in the ninth before George Sherrill replaced Matt Albers on the mound. Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch to force in the first run, but Sherrill locked the game down from there.

Game 1 was just an appetizer for a long day of baseball in the Windy City. The four-game series was scheduled to get underway on Friday, but steady rain canceled the game, making Saturday's double-header necessary.
