Phils rally in eighth to edge D'BacksPhoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Chase Utley drove in the go-ahead in the eighth inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-4, in the third test of a four-game series at Chase Field. Kyle Kendrick gave up three runs on 10 hits in six innings, but came away with a no decision. Ryan Madson yielded one run on two hits in one-third of an inning. J.C. Romero (3-0) pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn the win.
Pedro Feliz hit a two-run homer, while Shane Victorino and Eric Bruntlett each
drove in a run for Philadelphia, which has won three of four. Micah Owings allowed three runs on four hits and struck out seven over seven innings, but did not earn a decision. Chad Qualls (0-3) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on two hits in two-thirds of an inning to absorb the loss. Chris Young belted a solo homer and Augie Ojeda went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for Arizona, which has dropped three of its past four games. Jeff Salazar and Chris Snyder both finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Conor Jackson, celebrating his 26th birthday, was 2-for-3 with two RBI before leaving the game in the eighth inning with a head injury. With the D-Backs nursing a 4-3 lead, Qualls took over on the mound in the eighth. Victorino was the first one to face him and struck out swinging, but the ball eluded Snyder. As the speedy Victorino barreled down the line, Jackson reached out in an attempt to field Snyder's throw and the end result was a nasty head-to-head collision. Jackson laid face-down for several minutes and eventually retreated to the locker room. Chris Burke replaced Jackson at first base. Victorino remained in the game and eventually scored the tying run, when Bruntlett ripped a double over the drawn-in third baseman, who was anticipating a bunt. Utley then gave the Phillies the lead for good with a single back through the middle. Tom Gordon worked around a leadoff double by Snyder in the home-half and Brad Lidge tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season. The D-Backs jumped in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Stephen Drew, but Victorino answered with a run-scoring single in the top of the third. Young gave Arizona a 2-1 lead in the fifth, launching Kendrick's first pitch of the frame into the bleachers beyond the wall in left field. Ojeda then hammered the right-hander's next offering for a triple and came home when Jackson grounded out to Utley. After issuing a two-out walk to Utley in the third, Owings set down 11 straight before Geoff Jenkins lined a one-out single in the seventh. Feliz then clubbed his fifth home run of the season. Jackson restored the lead for Arizona in the bottom-half. Madson was summoned from the bullpen and gave up a one-out single to Eric Byrnes, who swiped second and scampered home when Jackson laced a double into the left-center field gap.
