Pirates place Doumit on DLSt. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a fractured left thumb. He injured the thumb in the first inning of Tuesday's 8-4 win in 10 innings against the Cardinals.
A pitch from Pittsburgh starter Phil Dumatrait hit the catcher on the thumb of
his glove and skidded past him for a passed ball in the first. He was then
lifted for a pinch-hitter in the second, as Ronny Paulino came on and took his
spot behind the plate. Doumit is hitting .350 with five homers and 15 runs batted in 29 games for the Pirates this season. To take his spot on the roster, the team selected the contract of catcher Raul Chavez from Triple-A Indianapolis.
