Ramirez, Marlins down Brewers in 10 innings

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Hanley Ramirez scored the game-winning run on an infield hit, as the Florida Marlins needed 10 innings to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0 in a pitcher's duel at Miller Park.

With Brewers reliever Guillermo Mota on the hill, Ramirez started the extra frame with a walk, and Jeremy Hermida poked an opposite-field single to left two batters later. After Jorge Cantu drew another walk to load the bases, Wes Helms hit a dribbler to the left side of the infield.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy made a nice back-handed stab but couldn't throw out the fleet-footed Ramirez in a close play at the plate. Cody Ross added a sacrifice fly to deep center and Mike Rabelo hit a blooper over third for another Marlins insurance run.

Kevin Gregg (3-0) picked up the win after tossing scoreless ninth and tenth innings, while Hermida and Rabelo each notched three hits for the Marlins, who won the first game of this three-game series.

Scott Olsen was again effective on the hill, allowing no runs on four hits and five walks through 7 1/3 innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.06 on the season.

Counterpart Yovani Gallardo also threw a gem, scattering six hits and two walks, while fanning five in seven scoreless innings for Milwaukee, which has dropped two straight. Gallardo has given up just one run in 14 innings this season.

Mota (1-1) was credited with the loss after a tough 10th inning, and Jason Kendall was the only Brewer to tally two hits.

Both starters were able to strand runners throughout the game. Gallardo got out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the fifth with a groundout to third from Dan Uggla.

Olsen crowded the bases a frame later, but Corey Hart grounded weakly to third for a inning-ending force out.

In the seventh, Gallardo put the first two runners on, but Kendall thwarted the rally throwing out Rabelo at third on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Olsen. The young right-hander then managed a strikeout and force out to maintain the scoreless affair.
