Rangers assign Ponson, Ramirez to minor league campSurprise, AZ (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers announced Saturday that they have assigned pitchers Sidney Ponson and Elizardo Ramirez to their minor league camp. Ponson, a 31-year-old right-hander, was signed to a minor league contract earlier this month and extended an invitation to the major league camp. He made seven starts for Minnesota a year ago, going 2-5 with a 6.93 earned run average.
In 10 big league seasons with Baltimore, San Francisco, St. Louis, the New York Yankees and Minnesota, Ponson has compiled an 82-101 record and 4.94 ERA. Ramirez went 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in four games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2007, and the 25-year-old righty is 4-14 with a 5.99 ERA in four major league seasons.
