Rangers place Benoit on DL, call up Nippert

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Joaquin Benoit on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation.

The move is retroactive to July 3.

Benoit has compiled a 3-2 record with a 5.60 earned run average in 34 relief appearances this season. The 30-year-old has spent his entire eight-year career with the Rangers, posting a 30-26 record with a 4.83 ERA and eight saves.

To replace Benoit on the roster, Texas purchased the contract of pitcher Dustin Nippert from Triple-A Oklahoma. Nippert is in his first season with Texas after spending three years in Arizona. He appeared in six games for the Rangers earlier this season, going 1-2 with a 16.62 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.
