Rays claim 1B Dan Johnson off waiversSt. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays claimed first baseman Dan Johnson off waivers from the Oakland Athletics Friday. Johnson, 28, had just one at-bat for Oakland this season before the club designated him for assignment on April 9.
The left-handed hitter had spent his entire professional career with the A's,
batting .249 with 42 home runs and 157 runs batted in over parts of four big
league seasons. In 2007, Johnson hit .236 with 18 homers and 62 RBI. To make room for Johnson on the 40-man roster, the Rays designated pitcher Calvin Medlock for assignment.
