Rays send Hammel to bullpenBoston, MA (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays made a move in their pitching staff Friday, moving right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel from the starting rotation to the bullpen. Hammel compiled a 2-2 record with a 4.88 earned run average in 27 2/3 innings over five starts this season. He became the odd-man out with the impending activation of staff ace Scott Kazmir, who is slated to start Sunday's game. Kazmir has been on the sidelines since spring training, rehabbing from a left elbow strain. In a concurrent move, right-hander Gary Glover was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 26, with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. In addition, former closer Al Reyes will be on the DL longer than expected with a right shoulder ailment. The Rays have called up outfielder Justin Ruggiano from Triple-A Durham for the first two games of the series, and will send him back once Kazmir is officially activated from the DL.
