Red Sox, Yankees continue to dominate All-Star voting

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter are the top two American League vote-getters in the latest fan balloting results for the 2008 All-Star Game.

Ortiz leads all players with 893,915 votes, while Jeter is next with 832,561 votes. Four other members of the Red Sox and one more Yankee continue to lead their respective positions in the balloting.

The other Boston players at the top are catcher Jason Varitek, first baseman Kevin Youkilis, second baseman Dustin Pedroia and outfielder Manny Ramirez. The other Yankee is third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

Joining Ramirez in the top three outfield positions are Texas' Josh Hamilton and Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki. Hamilton was sixth in last week's vote totals and is now second.

All-Star squads for both leagues will be announced on Sunday, July 6.

The 79th All-Star Game will be played July 15 at Yankee Stadium.
