Red Sox place Lugo on DL

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox placed shortstop Julio Lugo on the 15-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with a strained left quad muscle.

Lugo suffered the injury when running out an infield hit in the ninth inning of Friday's 7-3 loss to the O's.

The 32-year-old is hitting .268 with one home run and 22 RBI in 82 games this season.

To fill the roster spot, the Sox recalled infielder Jed Lowrie from Triple-A Pawtucket.
