Red Sox send P Colon to minor league campFort Myers, FL (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox assigned pitcher Bartolo Colon to minor league camp on Wednesday. The club signed Colon to a minor league contract in February to add insurance to a starting rotation that will miss Curt Schilling for at least the first half of the season, if not more.
Colon was on the disabled list twice last season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and went 6-8 with a 6.34 earned run average in 19 games, 18 of
which he started. He was not included on the Angels' post-season roster. The 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner has a career record of 146-95 with a 4.10 earned-run average in 11 seasons with the Indians, Expos, White Sox and Angels. The Red Sox also sent infielders Keith Ginter and Joe Thurston to minor league camp.
