Report: Rangers' Kinsler needs season-ending surgery

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler will reportedly undergo season-ending surgery to repair a sports hernia.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Kinsler, out since August 18 with the injury, decided to forego an attempt to come back this season without surgery. Kinsler told the paper that he should be able to run full speed in six-to- eight weeks, and the procedure shouldn't impact his offseason workout schedule.

The surgery ends a career season for Kinsler. The 26-year-old led the majors in hits (165) and runs (102) when he went on the disabled list, and posted a .319 batting average with 41 doubles, 71 RBI and 26 steals, all of which surpassed his previous career-highs.
