Rockies ink RHP VizcainoDenver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies have signed right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino to a two-year contract with a club option. Terms of the deal, which was announced Friday, were not disclosed. Vizcaino, 33, went 8-2 with a 4.30 earned run average in a career-high 77 relief appearances last season with the Yankees. He held opposing batters to a .235 average against. His eight victories in 2007 were a career-high and tied for first among all major league relievers.
"Luis provides valuable experience and durability to the back end of our
bullpen," said Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd. The journeyman right-hander has appeared in at least 70 games in five of the last six seasons and has made 360 appearances over the last five campaigns, the fourth-most games among all major league pitchers during that span. Originally signed by Oakland as a free agent in 1994, Vizcaino has gone 33-25 with a 4.25 ERA with the Athletics, Milwaukee, the White Sox, Arizona, and the Yankees.
