Rockies place Speier on disabled listPhoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies have placed pitcher Ryan Speier on the 15-day disabled list because of a right shoulder contusion. The move is retroactive to May 12.
Speier was hurt on May 11 when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of
San Diego's Tadahito Iguchi. The 23-year-old right-hander has a record of 1-1 with a 3.38 earned run average in 15 games this season. Colorado recalled lefty Josh Newman from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill the vacant roster spot. Newman appeared in four games for the Rockies from April 25 through May 3 and posted a 3.86 ERA with no record.
