Rockies place Vizcaino on 15-day DLDenver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies have placed right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino on the 15-day disabled list due to a right shoulder strain. The move is retroactive to April 4. The Rockies recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Vizcaino's spot on the roster.
Vizcaino, 33, has surrendered four runs in just 1 1/3 innings of work thus far
in the young season, after posting an 8-2 mark with a 4.30 earned run average
in a career-high 77 relief appearances last season with the Yankees. He
limited opposing hitters to a .235 batting average, and his eight victories in
2007 were a career-high and tied for first among all major league relievers. This is the first trip to the disabled list for Vizcaino in his 10-year career. The journeyman right-hander has appeared in at least 70 games in five of the last six seasons and has made 360 appearances over the last five campaigns, the fourth-most games among all major league pitchers during that span. Originally signed by Oakland as a free agent in 1994, Vizcaino has gone 33-25 with a 4.31 ERA with the Rockies, Athletics, Milwaukee, the White Sox, Arizona and the Yankees. He was inked by Colorado in the offseason.
