Rodriguez moves past Jeter in AL All-Star votingNew York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez moved past teammate Derek Jeter as the leader among all American League players in the latest fan balloting results for the 2008 All-Star Game. Rodriguez, who was third last week, vaulted into the top spot and now has 2,518,067 votes. Jeter, who was in the top spot, just barely trails with 2,507,534 tallies while Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is in third with 2,482,981 votes.
The Red Sox lead in voting for three other positions as Kevin Youkilis leads
all first basemen with 1,915,376 votes, Dustin Pedroia is tops among second
basemen with 1,669,216 votes and Manny Ramirez is first amongst outfielders
with 2,409,388 tallies. Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins continues to lead at the catcher postilion with 1,632,338 votes while Josh Hamilton of Texas and Ichiro Suzuki from Seattle are the other top vote-getters in the outfield. All-Star squads for both leagues will be announced on Sunday, July 6. The 79th All-Star Game will be played July 15 at Yankee Stadium.
