Rox option Speier


Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies optioned pitcher Ryan Speier to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday. To replace him on the roster, the Rockies purchased the contract of lefty Cedrick Bowers.

Since being recalled on April 6, Speier has gone 1-1 with a 4.13 earned run average in 25 games for the club. The right-hander holds a 6-3 career mark with a 3.93 ERA in 67 games over parts of three seasons with Colorado.

Bowers, who has never pitched in a major league game, will be in uniform for Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. In 16 games and two starts with Colorado Springs, Bowers posted a 4-1 mark with a 2.97 ERA including a 0.79 ERA over his last seven appearances.
