Soto receives NL Rookie of the Month award

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto was named National League Rookie of the Month for April.

The backstop recorded a .341 average (29-for-85) with five home runs and 20 RBI in 23 games for Chicago, which had a 17-10 record at month's end.

Soto's highlights include a pair of 4-for-5 performances at the plate and a multi-home run, six-RBI effort on April 30 against Milwaukee.

Teammate and outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, Atlanta starter Jair Jurrjens and Cardinals reliever Kyle McClellan were among those receiving votes for the honor.
