Yankees place Damon on DLBronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees announced on Sunday they have place left fielder Johnny Damon on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury. The 34-year-old Damon was injured in Friday's game with the Boston Red Sox after suffering a left shoulder contusion on a bizarre play in the third inning. It marks the first time in Damon's career that he has appeared on the DL.
Boston's Kevin Youkilis hit a fly ball to deep left that Damon appeared to
catch. Replays showed that the ball actually bounced out of his glove and onto
the top of the fence, where it sat still for a moment before falling back onto
the field. Damon, meanwhile, slammed his back into the fence on the play, and clutched his side in pain. The play resulted in a two-run triple for Youkilis. X- rays were negative and an MRI examination revealed a sprain of the AC joint. The veteran outfielder is hitting .319 with six home runs and 37 RBI in 82 games this season. In a related move, the Yankees recalled infielder Justin Christian from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
