Calderon says he will stay with Toronto

(Sports Network) - Toronto Raptors guard Jose Calderon said Tuesday he will remain with the club.

Calderon issued a statement on his website, saying his agent and the Raptors have "reached a preliminary agreement."

The Raptors had made a qualifying offer to Calderon last month.

"I want to thank [president & GM] Bryan Colangelo, [vice president & assistant GM] Maurizio Gherardini, [head coach] Sam Mitchell and all of the Raptors family for the confidence that they have placed in me," Calderon stated. "I am sure that together we are going to achieve big things in the future."

Calderon posted career highs of 11.2 points and a team-best 8.3 assists in all 82 regular-season games last year. He has averaged 8.7 points and 6.1 assists in three seasons with Toronto.
