Iverson is doing his thing in Denver

(Sports Network) - It has been more than a year since Allen Iverson was acquired by the Denver Nuggets from the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade on December 19, 2006.

Iverson did not seem to be completely comfortable with his new team right away, but he is back doing what he does best for the Nuggets, who are one-half game behind the division-leading Portland Trail Blazers in the Northwest.

The 32-year-old Iverson leads the Nuggets in scoring (27.1 ppg) and assists (6.8 apg). He is shooting 46.6 percent from the field, including 33.9 percent from beyond the arc.

The Georgetown product has started 2008 on fire, as he has scored at least 29 points in Denver's first four games in January. The All-Star guard is averaging 33.0 points and 6.0 assists those contests. Iverson has registered 20 or more points in 30 games this season, and has collected six double- doubles.

Denver is 3-8 when it fails to reach the century mark this season.

The Orlando Magic play the third of a four-game road trip when they visit the Nuggets on Friday at the Pepsi Center. It is the first of two meetings between the squads. The Nuggets are scheduled to visit Orlando on February 13th at Amway Arena.

The teams have split the last eight contests in the series. Orlando has lost four straight after winning its last six at Denver.

Denver attempts to get back on the winning track against the Magic. Shawn Marion scored 21 of his 27 points in the first half and his hot hand from beyond the arc led the Phoenix Suns over the Nuggets, 137-115, on Monday at U.S. Airways Center.

Iverson scored 32 points for the Nuggets, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Carmelo Anthony collected 20 points and 14 rebounds for Denver, which lost for just the second time in eight games overall.

The Nuggets are 14-5 as the host this season. The will visit the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday down south and the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday at Philips Arena.
