New Orleans Hornets 2008 Draft Preview

(Sports Network) - New Orleans is a team on the rise. The Hornets were one of the league's biggest surprises this past season, as they won a franchise- best 56 games and were one win away from advancing to the Western Conference finals.

Chris Paul and fellow All-Star David West had great seasons for the Hornets. Paul led New Orleans in scoring (21.1 ppg) and assists (11.6 apg), while West posted an impressive 20.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Forward Peja Stojakovic, who only played 13 games for New Orleans in 2006-07, had a solid and healthy campaign with 16.4 points per game and shot an impressive 44.1 percent from beyond the arc. Center Tyson Chandler, who posted 11.8 points per game, did his best work on the boards, as he averaged a team- best 11.7 rebounds and was a big factor in helping the Hornets excel in transition.

Swingman Morris Peterson, who signed with the club last offseason, and guard Jannero Pargo contributed mainly on the offensive end of the court. Trade deadline acquisition Bonzi Wells added depth and gives head coach NBA Coach of the Year Byron Scott flexibility off the bench.

The Hornets are going to select the best player available with the 27th overall pick. They need depth and would benefit if there is a solid outside shooter for them to scoop up.
