Nuggets pick up Weems in three-team deal

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets picked up the draft rights to Arkansas swingman Sonny Weems from the Bulls in a three-team deal involving another player selected on Thursday night's draft and three picks in future drafts.

The Nuggets picked up Weems, selected 39th overall by Chicago, while sending their second-round pick in 2009 to Portland. The Bulls received center Omer Asik of Turkey, who was picked 36th overall by Portland on Thursday, while sending New York's 2009 second-round pick, which they own the rights to, as well as their own second-round pick in 2010 back to the Trail Blazers.

The 6-foot-6, 203-pound Weems averaged 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in two seasons at Arkansas. Asik, a 7-foot, 220-pounder, is expected to spend several seasons overseas developing his game.
