Report: Clippers reach verbal agreement with Baron DavisLos Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with point guard Baron Davis on a deal in the range of five years and $50 million. The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, confirmed that his client has agreed to sign with the Clippers. No deal can be signed until July 9, when the salary cap for next season is determined.
In a surprise move, Davis opted out of the final year of his contract, which
would have paid him $17.8 million next season. The 29-year-old averaged 21.8
points, 7.6 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game last season for the Warriors,
his fourth in Golden State. According to the Times, Davis will make about $50 million over the next five years, trading in a big paycheck for next season for security over the next five. Davis, a Los Angeles native who played his college ball at UCLA, owns career averages of 17.1 points, 7.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game over nine seasons with the Hornets and Warriors.
