Report: Woodson to remain with Hawks

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract to remain with the club.

Woodson's contract was set to expire at the end of June, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution cited two people familiar with the situation as saying Woodson intends to sign a deal offered by the club on Thursday.

The Hawks told the paper that they had no comment.

Woodson has a record of just 106-222 in his four years at the helm, but the Hawks have improved each year and this past season made the playoffs for the first time since 1999 with a record of 37-45. Atlanta was just 13-69 in Woodson's first season, then won 26 games and 30 before this year's playoff appearance.

The Hawks, who surprisingly pushed the Boston Celtics to seven games in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, have a new general manager in Rick Sund. He replaced Billy Knight, who resigned in early May.

At the time of Knight's departure, Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon stated that he didn't foresee a coaching change.
