Spurs' Bowen suspended one game

New York, NY (Sports Network) - San Antonio swingman Bruce Bowen has been suspended one game without pay by the NBA after striking New Orleans guard Chris Paul with his leg during the Hornets' 100-75 win over the Spurs on Wednesday.

With 5:15 remaining in the third quarter, Bowen appeared to knee Paul in the head while Paul was on the floor following a foul call. The incident prompted NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson to discipline Bowen after review Friday.

Bowen, known as one of the league's top perimeter defenders as well as a notoriously physical player, is averaging 5.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30.3 minutes per game this season.

The 6-foot-7 Cal State Fullerton product will serve his suspension Friday night when the Spurs visit the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
