Suns promote Del Negro to assistant GMPhoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns named Vinny Del Negro assistant general manager Tuesday, promoting him from his previous position as the team's director of player personnel. "I'm excited that Vinny will be expanding his duties with the Suns," said Steve Kerr, president of basketball operations and general manager. "His knowledge, work ethic and energy will provide a big boost to our organization."
Prior to joining the Suns front office in 2003, Del Negro was the team's color
anaylst during television broadcasts, and also an assistant scout. Del Negro enjoyed a 14-year professional career, including 12 NBA seasons spent primarily in San Antonio. Drafted by Sacramento in the second round of the 1988 Draft out of North Carolina State, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 9.1 points and 3.2 assists during 771 regular season games with the Kings, Spurs, Bucks, Warriors and Suns. He also spent two seasons overseas, where he led Benetton Treviso to an Italian League title and was named the league's Most Valuable Player in 1992.
