Hillsman gets five-year contract at Syracuse


Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Syracuse women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman has received a five-year contract extension through the 2012-13 season,

The Orange women's basketball team made its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, earning an at-large bid to the 2008 tournament. Syracuse finished the season with a school-record 22 wins and achieved the program's first appearance in the top 25, peaking at No. 21.

"It was evident early in the season that Quentin was going to be successful as our head coach," said athletic director Dr. Daryl Gross. "Quentin and I have been in discussion about this extension for several months and it gives me great pleasure to make it official today."

The Orange won 13 more games than last season and set a school-record with a 12-game winning streak.

"I appreciate chancellor Cantor and Dr. Gross for allowing me to be a part of a great University and a great athletics department, said Hillsman. "Dr. Gross has given the women's basketball program everything it needs to be successful."
