Hoffman named Mercer's men's hoops coach

Macon, GA (Sports Network) - Bob Hoffman was named men's head basketball coach at Mercer University on Thursday.

Hoffman succeeds Mark Slonaker, who was behind the bench for the Bears for 11 years from 1997 through the end of this past season. Slonaker posted a 129-189 mark in that span.

"I am very excited about the potential at Mercer," Hoffman said. "I cannot wait to get started."

The Oklahoma City native was most recently the head coach for the NBA Development League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Hoffman's primary experience came as head coach for the University of Texas- Pan American from 1999-2004, where he posted a 69-75 overall mark. The highlight of his tenure was a 21-9 record in 2001-2002.

He also won an NAIA title as women's hoops head coach at Southern Nazarene, then led Oklahoma Baptist to a trio of 30-win seasons during a successful nine-year stint from 1990-99.
