Holman transfers to Detroit

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Center Eli Holman, who had a tirade last week in the office of new Indiana men's basketball coach Tom Crean, has transferred to Detroit Mercy.

According to the Indianapolis Star, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound Holman became so upset during his meeting with Crean that campus police were called. School police department captain Jerry Minger said he was told Holman threw a potted plant.

Holman received a medical redshirt after playing six games as a freshman last season with the Hoosiers, being sidelined due to a wrist injury. He will be reunited with new Detroit coach Ray McCallum, who spent the last two seasons on the IU basketball staff.

"I'm really happy that Eli made the decision to come to UDM," McCallum said. "I think me having been at Indiana and recruiting him was a big reason why he went there and he had a great opportunity there. But when you're involved in a young man's life for two years, you obviously build a relationship that he cared about and respected and he wanted it to continue."

A native of Richmond, CA, Holman was considered among the nation's top 100 prospects when he signed with the Hoosiers. He averaged 24.7 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks as a senior at Richmond High School, helping the team to the state Division II championship.
